Frequently Asked Questions: Essaouira Coastal Day Trip
How far is Essaouira from Marrakech, and how long is the drive?
Essaouira is located on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, about 175 kilometers (108 miles) west of Marrakech. The drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours each way. With Provan Transport, you will travel comfortably in an air-conditioned vehicle, enjoying a safe and scenic journey across the beautiful Haouz plains.
Will we see the famous "flying goats" in the Argan trees on the way to Essaouira?
Yes! The route from Marrakech to Essaouira passes directly through Morocco's unique Argan forest region. Your Provan Transport driver will make a special stop along the way so you can safely photograph the famous goats climbing the Argan trees. We also stop at a local women's cooperative so you can see how pure Argan oil is traditionally produced.
What is the Skala de la Ville, and what else is there to see?
The Skala de la Ville is a stunning 18th-century seafront rampart lined with antique brass cannons, offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the rocks. It is globally famous as the filming location for "Astapor" in the hit series Game of Thrones. During your trip, you will also explore the vibrant blue-and-white Medina (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the bustling fishing port, and the expansive sandy beach.
Is the Essaouira day trip fully guided, or do we get free time to explore?
Essaouira is a very safe, relaxed, and easily walkable city, making it perfect for independent exploration. Upon arrival, your driver will drop you off near the Medina entrance. You will have plenty of free time to wander through the car-free souks, walk along the Skala coastal ramparts, shop for local thuya wood crafts, and explore at your own pace before heading back to Marrakech.
What is included in the coastal lunch during the Essaouira tour?
Because Essaouira is Morocco's premier coastal fishing town, your included lunch will feature a delicious, freshly caught seafood meal. You will enjoy an authentic dining experience near the port or the beach. If you prefer a non-seafood, vegetarian, or vegan option, simply let us know at the time of booking, and we will happily accommodate your dietary preferences!
